I am a Board Certified and Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, No. 79769. I have a private practice in Marin County, CA, where I work with individuals, couples, and families. While I am a generalist, I have a special interest in anxiety disorders, adjustment to chronic pain and medical conditions, life transitions, and existential and spiritual issues. I enjoy working with teens and young adults as they discern identity and grow towards healthy independence, and with mid-life individuals facing work and life challenges.
Since 2007, I have provided high quality mental health services in settings ranging from university counseling centers and nonprofit agencies to elementary, middle, and high schools. I use a variety of methods to help my clients. My thinking has been inspired by cognitive behavioral, relational, and systems theories, integrative, somatic, and mindfulness-based approaches to wellness, and existential and post-modern philosophies. I have received additional training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Psychodynamic Therapy (Control Mastery), and somatic/mindfulness based approaches to emotional regulation.
Before becoming a therapist, I worked as a lawyer in many settings and as a professional writer, working for People magazine, among other publications, and authoring the book, Travel Fitness: Feel Better, Perform Better on the Road. My background helps me relate to the special challenges and pressures faced in high-demand fields. The common thread underlying all of my pursuits has been a desire to understand others and the aim to provide meaningful, high-quality support.
I love learning and continue my professional growth through ongoing workshops, trainings, personal reading, and peer and professional consultation. When needed, I collaborate with other professionals and assist patients in accessing services and resources to create a team approach to mental health care.
